The last couple years I’d developed these crippling headaches that would cause me to lose days. A lifetime of being a cyber native had caught up to me.

So, after trying to fix it myself, last summer I started working with Functional Patterns Texas and in 6 months I:

  1. transformed my posture

  2. eliminated crippling headaches entirely

  3. increased sprint speed by 15% as a side-effect

  4. increased overall stamina by 10% (despite less activity)

  5. added 10 lbs of muscle

Just doing the assessment was worth two months of traditional PT... After that experience I was like — max me out baby.

Traditional institutions are just not good.

Posture (6 mo. in)

You can see the curvature in of the shoulders on the left and this weird leaning I was doing vs the stacking on the right. I was also developing minor scoliosis with a left/right tilt. Not good, but leveling up as we speak!

Sprint (6 mo. in)

While I am leaner on the left you can see that I have far more torque and range of motion on the right. The load of the sprint is distributed across far more of my body resulting in an extra 2.5 - 3 MPH of speed.

Stamina & Knock on Effects

I’ve measured an increase to VO2 max of about 10% over the last year but I haven’t been doing any more cardio. I believe it’s simply that I’m more efficient.

Additionally, I’ve noticed that doing, say pull-ups — something we don’t train — I’m stronger simply because I’m able to access my abs, lats, and t-spine together as an integrated unit.

I also have much greater range of access in my right hip, where before I couldn’t sit comfortably cross legged with that side underneath me, but now I can.

Finally, I just look more imposing with how I hold myself. Broader in the chest, and more of a defined v-shape to show off that 11 inch drop 💪.
